Tracie Arlington, Founder & Lead Instructor

Tracie has her black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has been teaching self-defense courses since 1998 to women, teens and children. She is also a certified "Rape Escape" instructor for the Women's Self-Defense Institute:

In 2006 Freestyle Martial Arts voted her "Instructor of the Year." Tracie has conducted classes for colleges, high schools, local businesses, children's camps, places of worship, community centers, Girl and Boy Scout troops, teen groups, and mother's groups. She is also a local speaker to Mom's groups and Women's organizations throughout San Diego County. The mother of two sons, she is an advocate of child safety training. She also has a BA in Communications, with an emphasis in training. She has appeared on numerous shows, including Dr. Phil, The Doctors, San Diego Living.

Matt Arlington

Matt is the youngest ever to have earned his black-belt at Freestyle Martial Arts. He has been a self-defense instructor for nine years and is nationally certified. He is majoring in Criminal Justice with hopes to continue his passion for crime prevention and empowerment. Matt's philosophy is to empower students with awareness training so they can learn to project confidence and set boundaries. His goal is to begin certifying teachers to teach self-defense in middle & high school P.E classes.

Zak Smith

He has been a black-belt since 2000 and was voted "Ultimate Student of the Year" at Freestyle Martial Arts. Zak is a Kinesiology major and also coaches high school football. He believes the most rewarding part of teaching children self -defense is seeing them have fun while developing their confidence.

Tad Anderson

A second degree black-belt, Tad also teaches Tae- Kwon Do and self-defense at Freestyle Martial Arts. Tad specializes in teaching self-defense in physical education classes to middle schools and high schools.

Laurice East

His background is in Jiu-jitsu and MMA. Larry is an advocate for self-defense training on High School and College Campuses. His passion is preparing students for college.

Amber Wetzig

She is a First Degree black belt and instructor at Freestyle Martial Arts. Amber also studies Krav Maga. She has her Masters in Education from San Diego State University and taught secondary education for 10 years. Currently Amber teaches martial arts to special needs students, and in after-school programs. Her passion is for self-defense and empowering children, teens and women. She is the mother of two teen daughters, both are involved with the martial arts as well.
